Known name components
If only first and last names are reliably known, leave the middle-name field empty. Do not expand initials by guessing. Each field in the partial-data form is independent, so missing name components are acceptable.
Spelling variants
Check the source spelling, especially with transliteration or typos. An alternative spelling is a hypothesis, not a new fact. This guide does not claim that the bot automatically resolves every abbreviation or name translation.
Distinguish namesakes
Use reliably known additional details, such as part of a birth date, when there are several matches. Do not borrow an age from an unrelated record. Unsupported refinement may lead to the wrong person.
